Sounding Out, like OK Composer was a concert series that started in 2003 as an open call to all disciplines and students at CalArts. Its core focus was to bring together artists of differing backgrounds and engage in the production and presentation of new works. That in turn would encourage critical dialogue and further the development of critical experimental practices.

In 2005/06 I started co-curating the series with James Orsher who had taken over the task of curating a year earlier. In 2006/07, I turned Sounding Out into a bi-montly series with the great help of Marc Nimoy. Themes that we started to explore were the audiences' implicit participation, the notion of proscenium and how work can activate a space, inform other pieces and resonate across their prescribed durational boundaries.
